Staffelter Hof produces ice wine by pressing grapes that have frozen in the vineyards. Climate change with milder winters ice wine is becoming more and more scarce so we’re lucky to enjoy this 2016 vintage! It pairs fabulously with desserts and cakes such as apple, pear and walnut crumble, pineapple upside down-cake and apple cake.
As Staffelter Hof says, this is Father Frost's masterpiece. Very fine, clear and despite being harvested in winter, smells of summer flowers, orange blossom, dried orange slices and a little pimento. It's concentrated, fine, clear and has good balance. You'll find smokey notes along with sour cherry, dried apricot, nectarinean, honey, dried fruit and nuts.
Thanks to its clear delicacy a great soloist, you could call this a "meditation wine", great for enjoying alone but it also pairs well with with desserts and cakes such as apple, pear and walnut crumble, pineapple upside down-cake and apple cake or even french toast...
