The Touma family has been making Arak for decades and their Arak brands are famous around the world. Arak is made from distilling grapes, twice over, and then adding this to aniseed and distilling again. The crushed seeds give anise oil which gives Arak the distinct taste of anise, similar to ouzo which is great as an aperitif or digestif.
Arak should be drunk dilluted with water. First add the arak to the glass, pour on water and then add a large ice cube. The colour will change from colourless to cloudy white as the water reacts with the anise oil. This is a drink to enjoy over summer, sip by sip.
